Siddhartha

The inspiration for this series originates from my many years of personal Zen meditation and my observations of the daily lives of monks in Tibet. Additionally, I incorporate elements from my own unspeakable inner landscapes to construct the images. Although I am not a Buddhist, I was deeply moved by Hermann Hesse’s book "Siddhartha." Hesse was not writing a story about an oriental saint but about a mortal person who was full of distress and fears before enlightenment, and how he finds his real self away from vulgarity, utilitarianism, and patriarchy. Similarly, instead of reproducing religious stories, my "Siddhartha" series aims to show a journey of pursuing self and truth in the contemporary world, which is surrounded by an explosion of information, material consumption, political chaos, and spiritual barrenness.
